At least a half-dozen Chinese nationals are working with Facebook to develop censorship algorithms, the New York Post reported.
The Chinese nationals are part of a “Hate Speech Engineering” group which writes “machine learning” algorithms that censor newsfeeds, according to an ex-insider who spoke to the Post.
“What they don’t do is ban a specific pro-Trump hashtag,” said the ex-insider, adding that, instead, “content that is a little too conservative, they will down-rank. You can’t tell it’s censored.”
Given that China is likely the most censored country in the world, with a population conditioned to accept censorship, it wouldn’t be surprising that Facebook would hire H-1B Chinese nationals to develop censorship programs here in the US.
