Susan Collins Reelected in Maine, Dashing Democrat Hopes of Regaining Senate Majority

Republican Senator Susan Collins has been reelected in Maine after Democrat challenger Sara Gideon called to concede on Wednesday.

Collins secured a fifth term in the Senate with 51% over Gideon’s 42%, landing a devastating blow to Democrat hopes of retaking the Senate majority.

“To the people of Maine, thank you, thank you,” Collins said outside a Bangor hotel. “I will serve you with all of my heart and I will work hard for you every day.”

The Democrat Party machine had poured over $100 million in Maine’s Senate race to unseat Collins.

The DNC also failed to defeat Sen. Mitch McConnell in Kentucky and Sen. Lindsey Graham in South Carolina, after spending hundreds of millions to unseat them in a bid to retake the Senate.
