Attack Near US Embassy in Baghdad Comes as Trump Signals Troop Withdrawal

At least two Katyusha rockets struck near the US Embassy in Baghdad on Tuesday, according to Iraqi security officials.

There was no immediate word on injuries or who was responsible for the strike inside the city’s heavily-fortified “Green Zone,” reported shortly before 11 p.m. in Baghdad.

There were no immediate reports on casualties.

The strike came on the heels of published reports that President Trump recently asked military officials and top advisers about a possible attack on a nuclear complex in neighboring Iran.

It also follows Acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller on Tuesday confirming that President Trump will draw down troops in Afghanistan and Iraq days before President-elect Joe Biden takes office.
