As the U.S. presidential election draws near, city governments and federal and local law enforcement across the country are preparing for social unrest around the elections on Nov. 03.
Reuters has learned that it’s not just the government, at all levels, preparing for what could be another round of chaos on the streets of big cities, but also corporate America has gathered intel that shows their store fronts could be in danger.
Reuters spoke with Aon Plc., the world’s largest insurance broker, who said many of their retail clients are mulling over the idea that they must prepare for social chaos around the elections.
Aon executive MaryAnne Burke said 70% of their retail clients had their stores boarded up in May and June during nationwide protests; many of them have already started, or will likely soon begin boarding up for a second time.

An internal email from the Department of Homeland Security leaked to CBS Catherine Herridge late Monday detailing that the violence in Portland was not “opportunistic,” but rather “organized”—confirming long-suspected details about the Antifa movement.
The email explains that Antifa is organized and runs contrary to reports in the mainstream media that Antifa was not responsible for anti-police violence, but an impromptu movement spurred on by anti-fascist sentiments held by most of the American public.
A recent article in the Washington Post by Mark Bray, author of Antifa: Anti-Fascist Handbook, attempted to dispel “myths” about Antifa, claims that the group is not an organization, but rather a “tradition of militant antifascism.” The article disputed claims that Antifa “masterminds violence at Black Lives Matter protests.”
Most Americans assume that our system of government could never fail, but the truth is that it is failing right in front of our eyes.
In order for our system of government to work, people need to be able to believe that their votes will count and that the outcomes of our elections will be fair.
For over 200 years, most Americans did have faith in the system, but now things are rapidly changing.
Here in 2020, we appear to be heading for a hotly contested result in the presidential election, and many on the losing side are inevitably going to believe that the election was stolen from them.
And day after day we just continue to see more examples that indicate the security of our elections is being compromised on a widespread basis.

The US Department of Justice has designated several cities, namely – New York City, Portland, Seattle, Oregon and Washington as jurisdictions that allow “anarchy” in a move that will allow the federal government to restrict funding for the cities, according to a statement released on Monday.
“The US Department of Justice today identified the following three jurisdictions that have permitted violence and destruction of property to persist and have refused to undertake reasonable measures to counteract criminal activities: New York City; Portland, Oregon; and Seattle, Washington,” the statement said.
In early September, US President Donald Trump issued a memorandum directing administration officials to review and consider cutting funding to cities unable to prevent the establishment of lawless zones.
The two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputies who were shot in the head in an ambush in Compton Saturday are now in stable condition, authorities confirmed Sunday.
A senior official within the department tells ABC News that one of the deputies, only identified as a 31-year-old mother of a 6-year-old boy, was shot in the jaw and arms but is critical but stable condition.
“She helped the other wounded deputy, got on the radio, provided medical care, got him to a place of safety ’cause they didn’t know if there was another attack coming their way,” Sheriff Alex Villanueva said.
The other deputy, a 24-year-old man, was struck by gunfire in the forehead, an arm and a hand. He is described as alert. Neither of their names have been released to the public. Both deputies were sworn in 14 months ago.
President Trump on Wednesday signed a memo ordering federal agencies to defund “anarchist jurisdictions” including New York City, Seattle and Portland.
The New York Post reported:
President Trump is ordering the federal government to begin the process of defunding New York City and three other cities where officials allowed “lawless” protests and cut police budgets amid rising violent crime, The Post can exclusively reveal.
Trump on Wednesday signed a five-page memo ordering all federal agencies to send reports to the White House Office of Management and Budget that detail funds that can be redirected.
New York City, Washington, DC, Seattle and Portland are initial targets as Trump makes “law and order” a centerpiece of his reelection campaign after months of unrest and violence following the May killing of George Floyd by Minnesota police.
“My Administration will not allow Federal tax dollars to fund cities that allow themselves to deteriorate into lawless zones,” Trump says in the memo, which twice mentions New York Mayor Bill de Blasio by name.
The gentrified New York City that made the Big Apple the envy of billionaires, oligarchs, child molesters and money laundering criminals from around the world is no more, and in its place is the hellish New York from the 1970s.
According to Gothamist, between Thursday and Saturday, 49 people were shot in the largest city in the United States, as the uptick in gun violence continues this summer and is rushing to catch up with that other progressive paradise, Chicago.
Putting the surge in context, the number of people shot over the three days is five times more than the eight who were shot during the same days last year according to the Washington Examiner. While most of the shooting victims were merely wounded, at least six people were killed by gunshot wounds over the 3-day interval, compared to three homicides that took place during the same time last year.

Seattle Police chief Carmen Best has thrown in the towel and resigned after the Democratic city council voted to cut millions from the police department’s budget following demands to defund the police from Antifa rioters and Black Lives Matter agitators.
“To the Women and Men of the Seattle Police Department – I wanted to notify you that I will be retiring from the Seattle Police Department, effective September 2nd, 2020. I wanted you to hear this from me, but some media have reached this conclusion on their own.”
“This was a difficult decision for me, but when it’s time, it’s time.” Best added.
“Chief Best has been an outspoken critic of the council’s plans to cut SPD’s budget, citing concerns over public safety in a scenario where the department is forced to lose personnel,” KIRO radio reported.
Footage out of Indianapolis, Indiana, shows a mob of protesters blocking traffic on a major highway, as one protester threatens a motorist with a firearm.
The incident, currently being investigated by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, happened last Thursday as protesters marched for local man Dreasjon Reed, who was shot after allegedly firing a gun at police.
Commenting on a Twitter thread about the event, one Indianapolis resident claimed police have been ordered to stand down by the city’s Democrat mayor.
In recent weeks there has been a tremendous amount of debate about whether police departments around the country should be “defunded” or not, but what most Americans don’t realize is that it is already happening on a massive scale.
At a time when crime rates are absolutely soaring and civil unrest is raging in major cities across the nation, police budgets are being deeply cut and in some cities there is talk of eliminating police departments altogether.
I knew that a few cities had already made moves in this direction, but I had no idea that it was happening on such a widespread basis.
