Why aren’t critics of pandemic reopenings talking about California in the same breath as some other states? And what does that say about combating Covid-19?
The pundits always single out Florida. Or Texas. Or Arizona. Or all three. Consider Paul Krugman’s column on Monday. Krugman, one of the liberal stalwarts on the New York Times’s op-ed page, believes that the reason the U.S. is “losing its war against the coronavirus” is Republican politics. He pointed to President Donald Trump’s mid-April tweets calling for states to end their lockdowns and then wrote:
Republican governors in Arizona, Florida, Texas and elsewhere soon lifted stay-at-home orders and ended many restrictions on business operations. They also, following Trump’s lead, refused to require that people wear masks, and Texas and Arizona denied local governments the right to impose such requirements. They waved away warnings from health experts that premature and careless reopening could lead to a new wave of infections.
Comcast Corp.’s Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure reopened in Florida last week, but the public’s willingness to ride Doctor Doom’s Fearfall is still eclipsed by concerns about the coronavirus.
Mobile-phone signals emanating from the parks suggest crowds were about a fifth of what was seen at the same time last year, according to SafeGraph data.
The data also hint that crowds were slightly larger on June 3 and 4 — during the so-called soft opening for annual passholders — than they were on June 5, when the parks reopened to the general public. However, small fluctuations are sometimes explained by variations in the number of mobile devices captured in the sample.
One of Universal’s key theme-park draws, the Harry Potter universe, is contending with controversy this week after author J.K. Rowling made comments seen as denigrating transgender people. Several stars of the Harry Potter film franchise criticized Rowling after she took issue with the phrase “people who menstruate.”
President Donald Trump launched headlong into his push to reopen the country on Tuesday, saying Americans should begin returning to their everyday lives even if it leads to more sickness and death from the pandemic.
Trump, speaking in Phoenix during his first trip outside Washington in more than a month, said he’s preparing for “phase two” of the U.S. response to the coronavirus. That will include disbanding the White House task force of public health experts, including Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx, that have steered the government response to the outbreak so far.
Trump acknowledged that reopening the economy would likely lead to more suffering.
“Will some people be affected? Yes. Will some people be affected badly? Yes,” Trump said. “But we have to get our country open and we have to get it open soon.”
On his visit to a Phoenix-based Honeywell International Inc. factory producing medical masks, Trump made his most forceful case yet that the economic damage to the country has become too great to sustain an extended shutdown. He encouraged Americans to think of themselves as “warriors” as they consider leaving their homes, a tacit acknowledgment of deep public reservations about re-opening the country too soon.

The United States will need even more immigrants once the economy has recovered from the coronavirus crash, according to the editorial board of Mike Bloomberg’s news site.
“The U.S. will need to bring in more foreign talent, not less, to fill labor shortages in critical fields, notably health care, and to promote innovation,” the editorial board of Bloomberg.com claimed.
“The [post-crash] goals should be to increase immigrant admissions overall, while prioritizing skills over family ties, strengthening border security, and providing a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants already in the country,” said the board.

Former campaign workers for Mike Bloomberg are suing the billionaire former presidential candidate for fraud, alleging in a nationwide class action lawsuit that as many as 2,000 employees were promised to be paid through the general election before he laid them off.
Plaintiffs in the class action include two organizers who halted the interview process for other jobs to join the Bloomberg campaign, and another former organizer who postponed law school to work on Bloomberg’s 2020 effort.

Presidential hopeful Michael Bloomberg believes farmers and blue collar workers are simpletons with jobs that don’t require much intelligence, according to newly-surfaced video.
“I could teach anybody, even the people in this room, no offense intended” to be a farmer, Bloomberg said during a 2016 talk at Oxford University in a now-viral clip.
“It’s a process: You dig a hole, you put a seed in, you put dirt on top, add water, up comes the corn,” he stated. “You could learn that.”
The former NYC mayor also downplayed blue collar workers.
“You put a piece of metal on the lathe, you turn the crank the direction of the arrow, and you can have a job,” he continued.
Critics blasted Bloomberg’s statements as demeaning, elitist and out-of-touch with America, particularly flyover country.
Joe Biden’s haste upon his road to nowhere is a testament to the madness of the old establishment that continues its power-hungry clawing for centralized control. Meanwhile, Mike Bloomberg storms to the center of the 2020 Presidential Fray.
Dead Energy Bloomberg, his meme machine and all of his history of racial profiling are now adding speculation that the Former NYC Mayor is considering bringing in wicked Hillary Clinton as his running mate, according to the Drudge Report.
A source close to Bloomberg said that polling found the Bloomberg/Clinton duo would be a formidable force to face Trump in the 2020 race for the White House.
A Super Bowl ad from 2020 Democrat candidate Michael Bloomberg showed Obama-era footage of detained illegal alien minors, in a dishonest sleight of hand move misleading voters on President Trump’s immigration policies.
The ad, which aired during Super Bowl LIV, features 2014 images of children being lined up and processed by Customs and Border Protection agents, as well as illegal aliens using mylar blankets while in custody.
