A hair salon says it was told by a job center it couldn’t run an advertisement recruiting a “happy” stylist because the word is “discriminatory” against unhappy people.
Alison Birch listed a job ad looking for a part-time qualified hairdresser at her AJ’s Unisex Hair Salon in Stroud, England,.
The position called for someone with five years’ experience of working in a salon, who is “confident in barbering as well as all aspects of hairdressing.”
And the advertisement stated, “This is a busy, friendly, small salon, so only happy, friendly stylists need apply.”
But on Wednesday, Birch says she received a call from her local job center informing her they could not run her ad because the word “happy” is considered “discriminatory.”

Up to 10 percent of England’s coronavirus death toll could be wiped out due to reporting errors in which “Covid-19” deaths on the official register were logged months after positive tests regardless of the circumstances.
Public Health England currently counts the deaths of all people who have tested positive for Covid-19 among the coronavirus fatality total whether their death was related to the disease or not, an error which was noted in July, prompting the suspension of the daily death toll and an “urgent review” of protocol.
In other words, as many as 4,170 fatalities could be wiped off England’s current Covid-19 death toll of 41,686.
According to reports in UKmedia, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Matt Hancock will bring all coronavirus fatality reporting in line with Scotland and Northern Ireland public health models, wherein a death is marked as Covid-19-related only if it occurs within 28 days of a positive test.
The Chair of the London Metropolitan Police Foundation says it will be “nigh-on impossible” to enforce a new law which makes the wearing of face masks mandatory in all shops in England from July 24.
People who refuse or forget to wear the masks face a possible £100 fine for non-compliance, but according to Ken Marsh, who represents police officers in the capital, imposing the new law is virtually inconceivable.
“We’ll be driving round and round London looking for people who weren’t wearing masks, it’s absolutely absurd,” said Marsh.
He pointed out that the burden would fall on shopkeepers to stop refusniks, although since they have no power to detain, individuals would just leave before police could arrive.
Y tu Gandhi?
Activists in Britain are demanding the removal of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the city of Leicester. A petition to remove the Indian independence leader, which calls him out for “well-documented anti-black racism,” has nearly 5,000 signatures, the BBC reported.
Though he is most remembered for leading his people in nonviolent resistance against British colonialism, Gandhi also held publicly critical opinions of black Africans during his stint living in South Africa in the late 19th century.
“Gandhi too was an imperfect human being, [but] imperfect Gandhi was more radical and progressive than most contemporary compatriots,” Faisal Devji, a professor of Indian history at Oxford University, told the British news service.
The drive to remove Gandhi comes as Black Lives Matter protests have swept the globe toppling or defacing statues they deem to be racist. Earlier this week, BLM protesters in Bristol toppled a statue of 17th-century merchant and slave trader Edward Colston into the harbor.
“[Gandhi] is a fallible man as all men are, but to lump him in with slave owners, that’s a bit much,” Devji said.

A Catholic Church in England has removed its Vatican flag and replaced it with an NHS flag, illustrating once again how the National Health Service is akin to a religious institution in the United Kingdom.

The NHS flag is being flown by St John The Evangelist’s Church, which is located in in the south-east section of Bath City Centre, one of Britain’s most historic and iconic towns.

Every Thursday at 8pm, people are encouraged to clap for health workers outside their front doors and balconies.
This has led to some people being publicly shamed on social media for failing to take part in the weekly observance.

A famous Brexit mural by world-renowned street artist Banksy is mysteriously missing from its Dover, England, location and a local lawmaker is demanding an explanation.

“Very disappointed by the disappearance of the Dover Banksy,” said conservative MP Charlie Elphicke. “A culturally iconic statement on our times.”
