Oregon Governor Extends COVID Emergency Through the Election

Governor Kate Brown has again extended her declaration of a state of emergency regarding COVID-19 for an additional 60 days, the governor’s office announced on Tuesday.

This is the second time Gov. Brown has extended the state of emergency declaration. The governor first did so in June, just before the Fourth of July weekend and was scheduled to end on Sept. 4.

The decision to extend the state of emergency again was in part due to Labor Day weekend and students beginning a new school year, according to the governor.

“When I last extended the COVID-19 state of emergency in June, I told Oregonians that we were at a crossroads: we could work together to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Oregon, or we could watch infections and hospitalizations spike,” Gov. Brown said. “Now, six months after this crisis began, we have made progress. Together, we have slowed the spread of this disease. Oregon has one of the lowest mortality rates in the country. But, as students across Oregon begin a school year far different than any other before, it is clear that, at current COVID-19 levels, it will not be safe in much of the state for children to return to in-classroom instruction for months to come.”

Oregon sheriffs reject Gov. Kate Brown’s request to staff Portland protests

The sheriffs of Clackamas and Washington County in Oregon said they won’t send staff to help with the nightly unrest in Portland after Gov. Kate Brown unveiled a plan to bring an end to violence in the city.

Brown had asked the sheriffs and the Gresham Police Department to support the Portland Police Bureau with personnel and resources “to keep the peace and protect free speech.”

Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts on Monday said the governor never approached him before unveiling her plan to mobilize local law enforcement agencies in the Portland protests, and that he has no plans to send his staff to nightly demonstrations.

“Had Governor Brown discussed her plan with my office, I would have told her it’s about changing policy, not adding resources,” he said, according to a statement released by Kellee Azar, a reporter with Portland’s KATU. “Increasing law enforcement resources in Portland will not solve the nightly violence and now, murder.”

He said that Portland’s newly elected district attorney had dismissed charges against hundreds of protesters arrested for non-violent, low-level crimes.

Judge Tosses Coronavirus Restrictions by Oregon Governor Kate Brown

A county judge has declared Oregon Gov. Kate Brown’s coronavirus restrictions “null and void” because she didn’t have her emergency orders approved by the Legislature.

Baker County Circuit Judge Matthew Shirtcliff made the ruling Monday in a lawsuit brought by churches that had sued saying the social-distancing directives were unconstitutional.

The suit had also argued that emergency powers only last for a month and after that Brown would have needed legislative approval. The judge agreed.

Brown said she would immediately appeal the ruling to the state Supreme Court to try to keep the emergency orders in effect.

Salon Owner Gets CPS Visit After Defying Oregon Lockdown Orders

An Oregon business owner who reopened earlier this month in defiance of Democrat Gov. Kate Brown’s lockdown order says she was paid a visit from the state’s child protective services.

Standing by her decision to reopen last week, Glamour Salon owner Lindsey Graham was issued a fine of $14,000 by the state’s Occupational Safety Health division (OSHA) for daring to generate revenue during the pandemic that has decimated small businesses.

“I’m risking going to jail to do it. That’s how important it is to my family,” Graham told KPTV in early May. “I’m deciding that it’s more important for me to feed my family and pay the bills that are going to keep our home and our family alive than take the risk to remain being shut down for an undisclosed amount of time.”

She says the fine will be assessed next week and she’ll have three days to close or face additional fines.

There will not be a sellout of Autzen Stadium for one of the biggest home football games in Oregon football history later this year.

In an announcement made by Oregon Governor Kate Brown that the state is moving towards reopening up the state in phases, she did deliver the news that sporting events are still far from being cleared for normal activities.

“There is some difficult news to share. Large gatherings, including live sporting events with audiences, concerts, festivals, and conventions will not be able to return until we have a reliable treatment or prevention like a vaccine,” said the Oregon Governor.

But Democrat-led Oregon is not one of them.

Oregon, a state with 4.14 million residents did not reopen on Friday.

In fact, the liberal state is not reopening anytime soon.

Oregon is ranked 40th in US coronavirus deaths. 40TH!

The state has had 104 deaths and ranks next to South Dakota, a state that NEVER shut down!

This does not make sense on any level.

Insane Dems Declare War on Republicans Who Refuse to Sign Climate Change Bill

A standoff between Republican and Democratic Oregon state senators escalated on Friday after Governor Kate Brown (D) authorized state police to track down Republican lawmakers who have stalled a vote on carbon credit legislation by walking out and refusing to vote.

“Under the proposed cap-and-trade bill, Oregon would put an overall limit on greenhouse gas emissions and auction off pollution “allowances” for each ton of carbon industries plan to emit. The legislation would lower that cap over time to encourage businesses to move away from fossil fuels: The state would reduce emissions to 45% below 1990 levels by 2035 and 80% below 1990 levels by 2050.”

“Those opposed to the cap-and-trade plan say it would exacerbate a growing divide between the liberal, urban parts of the state and the rural areas. The plan would increase the cost of fuel, damaging small business, truckers and the logging industry, they say.” –ABC13

Oregon Governor Signs Net Neutrality Bill into Law

It’s getting increasingly difficult for internet providers to take advantage of the FCC’s looming net neutrality repeal. Oregon Governor Kate Brown has signedthe state’s recently passed net neutrality bill (HB 4155) into law, forcing ISPs to honor net neutrality if they want to secure government contracts. As with other states’ legislative campaigns (including Kansas, Tennessee and Wisconsin), the measure is a creative workaround that enshrines equal treatment of internet traffic without directly overriding the FCC’s order.
A slew of other states (such as Montana, New Jersey and New York) have implemented similar demands through their governors’ executive orders.

Oregon Governor Kate Brown (D) will refuse to deploy state National Guard troops to the border if asked by President Trump.

“If @realDonaldTrump asks me to deploy Oregon Guard troops to the Mexico border, I’ll say no,” Brown tweeted. “As Commander of Oregon’s Guard, I’m deeply troubled by Trump’s plan to militarize our border.”

Brown’s statement, however, is trivial; the president has the power to federalize National Guard troops through a variety of ways, such as 10 U.S. Code § 252 – Use of militia and armed forces to enforce Federal authority:

Whenever the President considers that unlawful obstructions, combinations, or assemblages, or rebellion against the authority of the United States, make it impracticable to enforce the laws of the United States in any State by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings, he may call into Federal service such of the militia of any State, and use such of the armed forces, as he considers necessary to enforce those laws or to suppress the rebellion.
