London Guardian Praises Merkel’s Disastrous Open Border “Gamble”

Mohammad Hallak found the key to unlock the mysteries of his new homeland when he realised you could switch the subtitles on your Netflix account to German. The 21-year-old Syrian from Aleppo jotted down words he didn’t know, increased his vocabulary and quickly became fluent. Last year, he passed his end of high school exams with a grade of 1.5, the top mark in his year group.

Five years to the month after arriving in Germany as an unaccompanied minor, Hallak is now in his third term studying computer science at the Westphalian University of Applied Sciences and harbours an aspiration to become an IT entrepreneur. “Germany was always my goal”, he says, in the mumbled sing-song of the Ruhr valley dialect. “I’ve always had a funny feeling that I belong here.”

Hallak, an exceptionally motivated student with high social aptitude, is not representative of all the 1.7 million people who applied for asylum in Germany between 2015 and 2019, making it the country with the fifth highest population of refugees in the world. Some of those with whom he trekked through Turkey and across the Mediterranean, he says, haven’t picked up more than a few words and “just chill”.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has doubled down on her controversial open borders immigration policy, saying she would make “essentially the same decisions” if presented with similar circumstances to the 2015 migrant crisis.

Merkel was asked about the policy during her annual summer press conference in Berlin on Friday. “When people are standing at the German-Austrian border or the Hungarian-Austrian border, they have to be treated like human beings,” the German leader told journalists.

The politician added that European nations will face similar tough decisions for many years to come. “The subject of migration … is not finished. It will be a constant theme for the 21st century,” she said.

Trump pulls 12,000 troops out of Germany because Merkel ‘delinquent’ on NATO spending

The U.S. will bring about 6,400 forces home from Germany and shift about 5,600 to other countries in Europe, the Pentagon said Wednesday – as Donald Trump said it was because the country is ‘delinquent’ on defense.

He attacked Germany’s failure to spend more of its budget on its military as the Pentagon outlined a plan to slash the U.S. presence there by a third, a move which will cost ‘single digit billions.’

Trump bluntly said Wednesday morning at the White House: ‘We’re reducing the force because they’re not paying their bills. It’s very simple. They’re delinquent.’

‘We spend a lot of money on Germany, they take advantage of us on trade and they take advantage on the military, so we’re reducing the force,’ he said as he waited to board Marine One for a campaign trip to Texas.

The US may voluntarily relinquish its status as a world power and Europeans must brace themselves for such a contingency, including by boosting their militaries, the German chancellor has warned.

European nations need “to carry more of the burden than during the cold war” in terms of defense spending, Merkel said, because they cannot assume that the US will be there to protect them.

“We grew up in the certain knowledge that the United States wanted to be a world power. Should the US now wish to withdraw from that role of its own free will, we would have to reflect on that very deeply,” she said, in an interview published in six European newspapers.

Migrants say they go to Germany to seek a “better life” because they feel welcomed by Chancellor Angela Merkel, whom they call “the mother of Africans.”

German state broadcaster ZDF recently interviewed three Guinean men at an asylum facility who said they were all bound for Germany.

“It is our dream to move to Germany to have a better life there,” one man said.

Another man claimed, “I would like to work in Germany, to learn a job, and work in it so that I can live well in Germany.”

Merkel Sits For German National Anthem During China Visit

German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is on a visit to China, and Li Keqiang, Prime Minister of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, stayed seated during the German national anthem at the official welcoming ceremony on Friday.

The official welcome ceremony was held, in accordance with tradition, in the very centre of Beijing – in the square in front of the House of National Assemblies amid almost-30-degree (Celsius) heat. Angela Merkel arrived at the ceremony in a motorcade of famous Hongqi cars, made for the highest-ranking Chinese officials; at the square she was met by Li Keqiang.

The journalists paid special attention to the state of health of the Chancellor, but judging by her appearance it was clear that in Beijing she was doing well.

The heads of government of the two countries traditionally greeted the German and Chinese delegations, after which they briskly walked around the red carpet paths of the guard of honour and a military band.

German Migrant Integration Program Will End After Proving to Be a Failure

A German program intended to promote migrant integration will end after proving to be a complete failure.

The 2016 federal program was designed to put migrants to work during their asylum process with odd jobs like cleaning and lawn mowing to improve relations with locals; the original target was to gain 100,000 migrants per year.

But by 2019, only 32,000 asylum seekers participated; migrants being provided for by the state regardless of their participation was cited as a reason, according to a local politician.

German officials are claiming that Angela Merkel’s second bout of trembling was “psychologically driven” and that she has no health concerns.

Questions about the German Chancellor’s health first arose when she was caught on camera visibly shaking during a red-carpet ceremony for Ukrainian President Zelenskiy last week.

Germany Ex Intel Chief Calls For Investigation into Handling of Refugee Crisis

A former top ranking official in German security and intelligence has called for an investigation into the Merkel administration’s handling of the ‘refugee’ crisis since 2014.

Hans-Georg Maassen, president of Germany’s domestic security agency until 2018, told local media a Parliamentary Committee of Inquiry should be established to examine the federal government’s management of mass migration into the country in recent years.

“Many people, especially in the new federal states, simply expect that everything that went wrong at the time will be dealt with unreservedly,” Maassen said in an interview with Nordkurier. “If one has made a mistake, then one must also stand by it, also within the framework of a committee of inquiry.”
