Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau has announced the federal government will be investing $221 million of taxpayer cash in a group to give loans to black entrepreneurs to start businesses.
Mr Trudeau made the announcement this week in Toronto at the HXOUSE organisation, a group that describes itself as a “Toronto-based, globally focused think-centre. Serving its community as an incubator and accelerator, it helps to foster innovation and opportunity for creative entrepreneurs.”
Of the $221 million, $93 million will be used over the course of the next four years to launch a new federal government programme, the Black Communities Entrepreneurship Program of Canada, newspaper La Presse reports.
Another $53 million will likely be set aside for a new fund to make money available int he form of loans only to businesses run by black entrepreneurs.

Fox News contributor Trey Gowdy told “Sunday Morning Futures” that he assumes there will be no additional indictments arising from U.S. Attorney John Durham’s review of the investigation into links between Russia and the 2016 Trump campaign.
Former FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith pleaded guilty last month in federal court to making a false statement in the first criminal case arising from Durham’s probe, but Gowdy, a former federal prosecutor and chairman of the House Oversight Committee, said not to assume that more indictments are on the way.
That doesn’t mean, however, that those in high positions at the FBI and Department of Justice will not face political punishment, he said.
The former South Carolina congressman made the comments after host Maria Bartiromo noted that “there is concern that John Durham is dragging his feet.”

The sheriffs of Clackamas and Washington County in Oregon said they won’t send staff to help with the nightly unrest in Portland after Gov. Kate Brown unveiled a plan to bring an end to violence in the city.
Brown had asked the sheriffs and the Gresham Police Department to support the Portland Police Bureau with personnel and resources “to keep the peace and protect free speech.”
Clackamas County Sheriff Craig Roberts on Monday said the governor never approached him before unveiling her plan to mobilize local law enforcement agencies in the Portland protests, and that he has no plans to send his staff to nightly demonstrations.
“Had Governor Brown discussed her plan with my office, I would have told her it’s about changing policy, not adding resources,” he said, according to a statement released by Kellee Azar, a reporter with Portland’s KATU. “Increasing law enforcement resources in Portland will not solve the nightly violence and now, murder.”
He said that Portland’s newly elected district attorney had dismissed charges against hundreds of protesters arrested for non-violent, low-level crimes.

As more and more schools and businesses around the country get the OK to reopen, some college towns are moving in the opposite direction because of too much partying and too many COVID-19 infections among students.
Iowa’s governor ordered all bars closed this week in the counties that are home to Iowa University and Iowa State, while the mayor of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, did the same in the town where the state’s flagship university is situated.
The outbreaks since students began returning to campus in the past few weeks have heightened town-gown tensions and led to recriminations between local politicians and university officials.
Meanwhile, California prepared to announce plans Friday for reopening many businesses that were shuttered in July as coronavirus cases soared.

Keep calm and carry on? That’s been easier said than done this year.
In fact, the number of Americans who Googled information about panic and anxiety attacks reached a 16-year high this spring, when the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19 began spreading across the U.S.
That’s according to a new analysis from the Qualcomm Institute’s Center for Data Driven Health at the University of California San Diego, which was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) this week.
Researchers tracked how often people looked up phrases including “panic attack,” “anxiety attack,” “am I having a panic attack?”, and “anxiety attack symptoms” using Google GOOG, +0.61% Trends data, and analyzed how often these phrases were searched for in the U.S. between January 2004 and May 2020. After adjusting for variables such as population growth and increased internet use over the past 20 years, the researchers found that these anxiety and panic attack searches reached an all-time high between mid-March and mid-May.
The U.S. continues to lead the rest of the world in the number of coronavirus cases and deaths, and some health experts project the nation could see close to 300,000 fatalities by the end of the year.
Recent research shows, however, that Americans have a significant misunderstanding of the risk of death from COVID-19 when it comes to different age groups.

A joint Franklin Templeton-Gallup research project released late last month found that on average, Americans believed people aged 55 and older made up more than half, 57.7 percent, of total coronavirus deaths.

Actually, I have had enough. So should you have had enough. The time has come for real discontent, or there will be no end to our mistreatment and humiliation by this Government.
To call these people incompetent would be to pay them an over-generous compliment. We shall see in a minute what might be a better word.
This is not personal grievance. By great good fortune, I managed a swift holiday a few weeks ago, and was not caught by any sudden Government panic measure, though the holiday itself, in places I love, was a sad shadow of what it would once have been.
So my anger about the crazy quarantining of travellers to France is not self-interested.
This heartless smashing of the simple pleasures of thousands is a futile act of spite. Do you know how many people officially died of Covid-19 in France during the past week? Fewer than 80.
In April, official deaths in that country peaked at more than 1,400 in a single day.
Just one day after announcing Kamala Harris will be his vice presidential running mate, Joe Biden declared his administration would call for a “nationwide mask mandate” if elected.
“This is not about Democrat, Republican or Independent,” Biden claimed. “It’s about saving Americans’ lives. So, let’s institute a mask mandate nationwide, starting immediately, and we will save lives. The estimate is that we will save over 40,000 lives in the next three months if that is done.”
A UK sociology professor has penned an impassioned editorial calling for governments to stop “terrorising” people with extreme reactionary measures in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, saying that a “sense of proportion” is desperately needed.
Writing in the Express, Robert Dingwall, professor of sociology at Nottingham Trent University, called the virus a “nasty infection” that “simply brought deaths forward be a few weeks”.
“Covid-19 has been linked to about 50,000 deaths in the first 16 weeks of the UK pandemic – but about 1,000 people normally die every week,” the professor urges.
“In the past five weeks, fewer than usual have died. Covid-19 simply bought deaths forward by a few weeks or months,” Dingwall adds, noting that over 80% of victims all had serious underlying conditions anyway.

Andrew Cuomo is the hero of the left.
New York state and Governor Cuomo had THE WORST Coronavirus death ratio in the world — higher than any state (except New Jersey) and higher than ANY COUNTRY!
Under Cuomo’s leadership thousands of New Yorkers were needlessly killed in nursing homes, adult care facilities and homes for people with disabilities.
After destroying his state now Governor Cuomo is setting up testing sites in several other states for some reason.
Andrew Cuomo helped establish COVID testing sites in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Cuomo also helped Houston set up two additional testing sites.
And Cuomo brought a COVID-19 testing team to Georgia.
Cuomo is spreading his medicine like Cuba shares doctors.
Who’s paying for all of this?
After having the worst COVID-19 record in the world Cuomo has no shame in lecturing other states on this deadly virus.
