University SJW Wants Families to Argue Over Politics at Thanksgiving

An opinion columnist at the University of Virginia’s student newspaper encouraged her readers to “stand up” to “ racist family” at Thanksgiving.

Emma Camp, who writes a regular opinion column for the Cavalier Daily, asserted that “white progressives must privilege their principles over personal comfort” in conversations with family during the holiday season. In order to fulfill this mandate, they “need to stand up to their racist loved ones.”

Though Trump, who Camp defines as a “proto-fascist,” who has “been defeated,” she argues that “the hateful rhetoric, conspiratorial thinking and virulent racism, xenophobia and sexism he espoused during his tenure remain deeply entrenched in American political discourse.”

Heat St Calls Capitalism ‘White Supremacy,’ Wants ‘Woke Capitalism’ Instead

On July 27, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) platform committee voted on the idea of Medicare for All. The policy was defeated 125 votes to 36. In response, Anand Giridharadas tweeted: “The Democratic Party has once again chosen to be the party of woke oligarchy, of rainbow plutocracy.”

We think that Giridharadas has a point. Generals often wage the last war. People who fight “racial capitalism” are combating a system that played an important role in human history but is already on the way out.

From our perspective, woke capitalism, not racial capitalism, is the future, though it will not necessarily be any better for most people of color than its earlier, cruder version.

Cedric Robinson’s “Black Marxism” opens one’s eyes to how race and class have intertwined through history. Medieval Europe was racist, so when it transitioned from feudalism to capitalism, European capitalism relied upon race to structure the economy. A recent article in the New York Review of Books on the slave trade in the West Indies brings this point home. Greatly outnumbered, whites in the Caribbean tortured and killed huge numbers of Blacks in order to maintain their wealth and power.

NFL Announces Social Justice Slogans Will Be Inscribed on Every Field

NFL end zones will be inscribed this season with two slogans: “It Takes All Of Us” on one end line, “End Racism” on the other.

As part of its social justice awareness initiatives, the NFL also will allow similar visuals on helmets and caps.

Previously announced were decals on the back of helmets, or patches on team caps, displaying names or phrases to honor victims of racism and/or police brutality.

“Each player will have the option to honor an individual by displaying that person’s name via a decal on the back of their helmet,” the memo said, according to ESPN.

NPR Promotes Insane Book Celebrating Looting, Riots

Vicky Osterweil’s new book, In Defense of Looting: A Riotous History of Uncivil Action, is a social justice justification for property damage and theft. This book promoting riots is a number one new release on Amazon, a mega-corporation that benefits every time a local shop gets torched.

Osterweil’s book is a celebration of looting in the name of anti-racist action directed at dismantling whiteness and property ownership.

Speaking to NPR’s Natalie Escobar, Osterweil made the point that looting during the course of riots is a redistribution of wealth, not theft, and that property damage, too, is simply a way to reapportion assets which she deems necessary in an unequal society.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says he wished the league had “listened earlier” to Colin Kaepernick when he began protesting during the National Anthem back in 2016.

Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since he sparked controversy by sitting, then kneeling, during the National Anthem before several games to protest the police shootings of Black men and other social injustices faced by the Black community.

Appearing on Emmanuel Acho’s ‘Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man,’ Goodell was asked how he would apologize to Kaepernick.

Leaked Audio of Goodyear “Diversity Training” Shows They Banned Blue Lives Matter But Allowed BLM Attire

Audio allegedly recorded during a Goodyear diversity training session for employees in Topeka, Kansas, features an executive discussing the company’s corporate zero tolerance policy prohibiting employees from wearing pro-law enforcement gear.

In the leaked audio, obtained by local media from an anonymous worker, an executive can be heard telling employees they must abide by new rules prohibiting certain attire.

The exec states, “Some people may wish to express their views on social justice or inequity or equality issues such as black lives matter or LGBTQ pride on their face coverings, shirts or wristbands. That will be deemed approved because it applies with a zero-tolerance stance.”

Interestingly, the company seems to be defining “acceptable” activism as simply “equity issues” and “unacceptable” activism as “political campaigning” (which is what the slide was also trying to do), but in this national climate, it’s dubious to claim that any activist movement is devoid of an underlying political cause.

That’s why this PR statement might do Goodyear more harm than good, even though the company now says it supports law enforcement.

It’s also noteworthy that Goodyear disabled the comment section for the tweet.

NFL Won’t Have Live National Anthem Performances, May Bar Military and Police Honor Guards From Field

The NFL won’t have any live performances of the national anthem before games this season, as it reportedly attempts to limit the number of people with access to the field to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, according to Front Office Sports.

The tradition of having performers sing the national anthem before games has become a source of controversy due to social justice protests. Although the anthem won’t be performed live, there will still be recordings of the song played before the game.

The NFL could also limit the presence of military and police honor guards on the field. Those groups are often a part of the national anthem ceremony at games.

While there may be less ceremony surrounding the national anthem in the NFL in 2020, there will be more in the way of social justice protests and signs of support for anti-racism initiatives. From ESPN’s The Undefeated:

“Lift Ev’ry Voice And Sing,” traditionally known as the Black national anthem, is expected to be performed live or played before every Week 1 NFL game, and the league is considering a variety of other measures during the upcoming season to recognize victims of police brutality, a source familiar with the league’s discussions told The Undefeated on Thursday.

The song would be performed before “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the source said. The NFL’s season opener is scheduled for Sept. 10, with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Houston Texans.

Having recently displayed increased awareness about the problems of systemic racism, the NFL, in collaboration with the NFL Players Association, is also considering listing the names of victims on uniforms through decals on helmets or patches on jerseys. The NFL also may produce educational programs about victims, among other plans.

Bike Store Cancels Contract With Austin Bike Police After ‘Woke’ Employees Complain

Mellow Johnny’s Bike

A bike store in Austin, Texas has cancelled its contract with the Austin Police bike patrol unit after three ‘woke’ employees complained that the bikes were being used for crowd control during Black Lives Matter protests.

In a Facebook post, Christopher Carlisle explains how for eight years he maintained a contractual relationship with Mellow Johnny’s Bike store in downtown Austin to provide bikes and other equipment for the Down Town Area Command (DTAC) Bike Patrol and the Bicycle Public Order Team.

Now thanks to the last two months of BLM social justice protests in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd, that relationship is apparently over.
