The Problem with Parler: How a Free Speech App Turned Into Anything But

full of shit

While the bias against conservatives on social media is nothing new, solutions for it are few and far between. No one wants to lose or abandon a platform full of all their old photos, memories, and contacts that they spent years building and accumulating. While alternatives to major brands like Twitter and Facebook exist, they quite frankly for a lack of a better word usually “suck.”

When the Twitter alternative Parler came along, I created a throwaway account to check it out, realized no one was on it, and never thought to check back. Then all of a sudden it was trending on Twitter and everyone was jumping over because influencers were promoting it (and if I know influencers, that means they’re getting paid.)

I was alerted immediately that people had found an imposter account using my verified Twitter/Instagram handle of @iheartmindy that was mimicking my real account with the banner and profile pics and making disgusting and sexually vulgar comments as if it were me. So I go over to report it as do multitudes of other people…and nothing happened. I actually got into a Twitter beef with Dan Bongino over it because I made a comment on one of his posts where he was talking about how amazing Parler was and I mentioned this issue, which he quickly internalized and got extremely rude over. Apparently he’s part owner of it, and I was unintentionally crapping on his parade.

Verified Twitter users shared an erroneous side-by-side image supposedly showing Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin wearing a “Make Whites Great Again” hat.

Several major accounts followed by millions spread the image claiming the person wearing the hat is the same officer who suffocated Minneapolis resident George Floyd on video – with no action taken by Twitter after the image was verified to be inaccurate.

On the left side of the image is a screen shot of Officer Chauvin, seen kneeling on Floyd’s neck as he struggled to breathe. On the right is a photo of a man wearing a “Make Whites Great Again” who has been identified as professional troll Jonathan Lee Riches.

Trump Vows to Strip ‘Radical Left’ of ‘Total Command’ Over Social Media

President Donald Trump has vowed to break the “radical left’s” apparent control of social media platforms. Earlier, the president thanked his “keyboard warriors” for their support, as they accused the tech firms of censorship.

“The Radical Left is in total command & control of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Google,” Trump tweeted on Saturday. “The Administration is working to remedy this illegal situation. Stay tuned, and send names & events.”

UK: Police Investigating People Who Post Tweets Critical of Lockdown

Police in the UK are apparently investigating people online who post tweets critical of the coronavirus lockdown.

Toby Young’s LockdownSceptics.org website was contacted by a reader who regularly dissents against the shutdown of the UK on social media.

“I was contacted by a reader who has been very critical of police over-reach on Twitter,” writes Young.

“He saw a Tweet from another sceptic complaining the police had checked his profile on LinkedIn and thought, “That can’t possibly be true. Surely, they’ve got more urgent maters to attend to?” He then checked his own LinkedIn profile and found this.”

UN Chief Antonio Guterres Calls For Social Media Censorship

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres shared his thoughts on social media censorship and free speech on Friday, suggesting that all content he doesn’t like should be unilaterally removed as part of “an all-out effort to end hate speech globally.”

In a bizarre tirade that tackled subjects such as memes that poke fun at the elderly, “ethno-nationalism,” and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories,” Guterres argued that the COVID-19 pandemic has unleashed a “tsunami of hate and xenophobia, scapegoating and scare-mongering.”

Guterres listed several negative side effects of the virus and ensuing lockdown, such as “disproportionate effects on certain communities, the rise of hate speech, the targeting of vulnerable groups.”

UN to Launch Propaganda Campaign Combating Virus “Misinformation”

Social Media is the Catalyst of International & Societal Decay

Nuclear bomb from phone

It was, perhaps, the strangest demand in political history:

“The middle photo is taken from Hungarian porn. Stop using fake photos to ‘trick’ people into supporting your lost cause.”

This Nov. 18, 2014, tweet from a now-defunct Twitter account run by the U.S. State Department offered an early glimpse into a new front in the future of war: trolling. The message was the outgrowth of an effort the department had launched in 2011 to track and counter terrorist propaganda, first against al Qaeda, then against the fast-growing Islamic State that had spun out of its Iraqi remains.

The campaign may have sounded sensible, but it soon backfired. Instead of cheering on the online battle against extremism, Twitter users piled on with more questions than the staid Foggy Bottom bureaucrats manning the account were prepared to answer. “How did the State Dept. know it was Hungarian porn?” @SpaSuzy asked. “dude … it’s really weird you know so much about hungarian porn,” @7thhorse added.

How Social Media is China’s Social Credit System

Social media already operates much like the Chinese social credit score system by “rewarding” good behavior with “likes” and “retweets” while punishing “unacceptable” viewpoints through deplatforming and censorship.

Enacted in 2014, China’s “social credit score” is a points-based system for all Chinese citizens which punishes behavior deemed “unacceptable” by the Chinese government.

Through the use of high-tech surveillance, the Chinese government docks points from individual citizens for “improper” behavior, including buying too many video games, supporting Tibetan Buddhism, criticizing the government or even failing to sweep the sidewalk outside their residence or place of business.

The New Matrix: Americans Addicted to Smart Tech, All But Ignore TV

Why do you believe what you believe?  Some people have a really solid answer to that question, but much of the population never thinks much about deeper questions such as this.  In fact, for most Americans it is simply easier to let others do their thinking for them.  Today, most of us spend multiple hours each day absorbing information through a screen, and most of the content that is fed to us through our televisions, phones, tablets and computers is controlled by the elite.  And if you allow anyone to feed information into your mind for several hours every day, it is going to have a dramatic impact on how you view the world.

When I was younger, one of my favorite movies was “The Matrix”, and I think that it is a really good metaphor for what is going on in our society today.  In the film, nearly the entire human population was plugged into a system which continuously fed a computer-generated reality into their minds that wasn’t real at all.  Later on, I eventually came to realize that we are willingly doing the same thing to ourselves.  Our personal interactions with one another are extremely limited, but we willingly “plug in” to the enormous matrix of news, information and entertainment that the elite have constructed for many hours each day.

Big Pharma, Social Media Fueling 56% Jump in Youth Suicide in Last Decade

The national youth suicide rate has increased by 56% in 10 years, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The suicide rate among people ages 10-24 increased from 6.8 per 100,000 people in 2007 to 10.6 per 100,000 people in 2017. Among youth ages 10-14, the suicide rate nearly tripled from 2007 to 2017, according to the report released Thursday.

For all age groups between 10 and 24-years-old studied by the CDC, suicide rates surpassed homicide rates from 2011 to 2017, the report notes. In 2017, the suicide rate among those in the same youth demographic was the second-leading cause of death. Additionally, the suicide rate in the U.S. in general has increased 30%, the report notes.
